The Dialogue: Gender and Mobility
Past Event

About Event
Urban transport and mobility played a crucial role in shaping one’s quality of life, influencing access to jobs, education, healthcare, and social opportunities. However, transport systems were not gender-neutral. Women, men, and gender-diverse individuals experienced mobility differently due to safety concerns, availability and accessibility barriers, and societal roles influencing their travel patterns.
‘The Dialogue: Gender and Mobility’ aimed to deliberate on how transport policies, infrastructure, and planning could become more inclusive. It served as a platform for knowledge exchange, skill development, and collaborative problem-solving, driving forward the agenda of gender mainstreaming in urban transport systems.
To offer the participants a comprehensive understanding of the subject, the session included a short hands-on exercise, where participants identified gender-based mobility challenges, shared diverse perspectives, and brainstormed practical solutions for equitable urban transport in Bengaluru. By fostering dialogue, this session empowered civil society organizations to champion gender-responsive transport systems that work for everyone.
This session was part of the second edition of ‘Namma Raste,’ which focused on developing comprehensive mobility strategies for Bengaluru’s future.
